A Day in 1876 at Historic Lammersville School

A Simulation of Tracy Pioneer School Life Depicted in 1876 Using Tracy Unified School District’s 3rd Grade
Curriculum.  Developed by The West Side Pioneer, Tracy Historical Museum, The City of Tracy, and Tracy
    Unified School District.

Our goal is to offer our 3rd grade students the opportunity to spend an entire day in a school environment very
similar to those of rural children who attended a one-room school in 1876 in San Joaquin County. Our goal is to
be authentic to the period including curriculum with memorization and recitation exercises, calligraphy writing,
food, games, and clothing of the period.

    Our day will include...

  • Raising and saluting the flag.
  • Sing “America” and review class procedures.
  • Memorize a poem.
  • Penmanship and Grammar Lesson.
  • Arithmetic and Spelling Bee.
  • Picnic Lunch and Games.
  • Read in McGuffey Readers.
  • Draw school with charcoal, corn husk dolls, etc.
  • Music Sing “Oh,! Susana, or I’ve Been Working on the Railroad” etc.
